Kinski – Old Gold b/w Loved By You – Available on 4/20/18!

Feeling proud and excited to announce a new single from Seattle’s Kinski. This is a big deal to us over here at TANR. We’ve been big Kinski fans for a long time. I’ve personally followed with earnest their arc from feedback drenched space rock to the heavier, in-the-red song-oriented material. On this single Kinski give their in-the-red treatment to “Old Gold” from Love As Laughter and “Loved By You” from David Kilgour’s band Stephen. Previously only available as bonus tracks to the Kill Rock Stars digital version of 7(or 8). So, you know, the first physical incarnation man. Two sides of fuzzed-out fun that will get the blood moving. Limited to 500 copies. Available 4/20/18.

Rivener LP in The Big Takeover

We missed this when it first appeared. Our bad. Very excited to share that renowned magazine – The Big Takeover – gave the Rivener LP an excellent review.

“To wit, Rivener all but abandons any modicum of melody and conventional song structure, in favor of an improvised, instinctive approach and irregular, inharmonious arrangements. Aptly described in their bio as “shape-shifting explorations of no wave, noise, free jazz, and psych,” their abstruse compositions are leisurely and labyrinthine, alternating between meandering mood pieces and migraine-inducing, Metal Machine Music-like maelstroms.”

Rivener / Self-Titled LP – Available Now!

We don’t release albums as often as we’d like, but when we do, we’re proud as shit. Please feel free to grip the newest offering (and first official vinyl release) from New Haven, CTs Rivener. Drummer Michael Kiefer and guitarist Paul Belbusti conjure up a potent mix of free jazz, psych, and noise that will scrape your cranial cavity raw. Over the course of this album’s six tracks, Rivener creates moments of beauty that intertwine with moments of terror. As the band explains: “All our songs are composed on-the-fly — lysergic, shape-shifting explorations of no wave, noise, free jazz, and psych, with some elements rooted loosely in the rock tradition; ineffable expressions of the human spirit.”

An early, stellar review from The Vinyl District also gives some in-depth analysis. They called it “consistently intuitive…a highly communicative and wholly satisfying eponymous effort…a combination of noise-imbued psych and out-jazz-flavored no wave…a fresh chapter to the free-rock book.” Read the full review here.

A joint release with our buds at Twin Lakes Records. 250 copies on black vinyl w/download code. Head over to the release page or to the Rivener bandcamp for the digital goods. For your listening pleasure, experience the burned-out vibe of “Noiren” below or over on our Soundcloud.

Rivener / Self-Titled LP – Arriving 9/1/17

Our next release will be the debut vinyl offering from free improv duo Rivener. Hailing from New Haven, CT, drummer Michael Kiefer and guitarist Paul Belbusti generate a potent mix of free jazz, psych, and noise that will scrape your cranial cavity raw. Over the course of this album’s six tracks, Rivener creates moments of beauty that intertwine with moments of terror as Kiefer’s near-jazz drumming constantly wrestles with Belbusti’s skronk and splatter. And, while Rivener tread through the waters of free jazz and abstract noise, this is a duo that hasn’t forgotten about their love of rock music.

As the band explains: “All our songs are composed on-the-fly — lysergic, shape-shifting explorations of no wave, noise, free jazz, and psych, with some elements rooted loosely in the rock tradition; ineffable expressions of the human spirit.”

A joint release with our buds at Twin Lakes Records. Arriving 9/1/17 in an edition of 250 copies on black vinyl w/download code. Experience the burned-out vibe of “Noiren” below or over on our Soundcloud.
