Excellent news for all Landing fans. Geographic North has announced a release date for the upcoming Landing full length. This is the band’s first record of original material in six years and will be limited to 500 copies. You can pick it up on 6/12/12 or give in to your collector paranoia and pre-order the record from Geographic North right now. I did.

Check out the video for the first single, “Heart Finds The Beat,” directed by the band’s own Aaron Snow. You can stream or download the track via Souncloud.

I would also suggest that any vinyl nerds check out the Geographic North 7″ subscription series. Beautiful stuff.

Ronald Clyne

An inspiring interview / mini-doc on the late Ronald Clyne. Clyne designed over 500LP covers for the Folkways record label in a relationship that lasted over three decades. I have included a few of my favorite covers below but they only scratch the surface. Do yourself a favor and check out the archive of Clyne’s work on the Smithsonian Folkways website. You can peruse all the beautiful cover artwork along with some great music. It’s also a great way to kill time while you’re supposed to be working. And for those who like to hold something in their hands, Unit Editions put out a very cool newspaper dedicated to Clyne’s Folkways cover artwork a few years ago.

Hello. It’s been a while. Things were slow there for a bit but, we’re back with a new website and a new release. The Brainworlds / Plosive split 12″ is available now! We experienced a few hurdles getting this website up and that delayed things with the split. But let’s put all those bad vibes behind us and, concentrate on the good things. We’re excited for this release, which features the righteous pairing of Georgia’s Brainworlds and Connecticut’s Plosive. A mix of drone, kosmiche and experimental influences can be heard throughout this record. Both of these guys make some brilliant and routinely transcendent music. Check it out:

This website has been sitting around since 2009 and we finally got around to making it a reality. We’re hoping this blog gets some more action than the last one. The plan is to post semi-regularly about label happenings, band happenings, things we like, etc. Anything we want really. It’s a little fuzzy around the edges, we’re still working it out. Talk soon.

Brainworlds / Plosive Split 12″

Mason Brown’s Brainworlds project has been killing it over the past two years with a string of absolutely solid releases. A master of the epic, celestial journey via processed guitar. For his side of the split, and his first foray onto vinyl, Brown contributes a track called “Heliopause.” “Heliopause,” is a 15-minute blissed out ride through the amniotic fluid. Warm, hazy swells of sound coming through from the other side. Undulating towards the vast beyond. A champagne sunrise on the escalator ride to heaven. If you believe in that kind of shit of course. For any nerds familiar with Valis or Radio Free Albemuth, this is the stuff I want to be listening to when that pink laser hits my brain. Plosive is Chris Bracco. Although mostly known for his remix work, this marks the second release of Bracco’s solo compositions under the Plosive moniker. Bracco’s pieces reflect a wide range of experimental influences and sensibilities. From ambient-drone calisthenics to the influence of minimalist composers like Arvo Part and Rhys Chatham. “Between 8:00 and 8:30″ builds on a persistent vibrating bass-hum over which sparse piano melodies and synth washes rise and fall in a slow call and response. “The Bubble Machine” combines shimmering guitar slices with some fuzzy synth gurgles punctuated by fast rising walls of treated backwards piano. All eventually intertwining like branches in a dense forest ceiling. Prepare to float away with two sides of extreme healing. 250 hand-numbered copies in jackets.
